Karyn attended Fairfield Grammar School in Bristol where she studied until the age of 16 after completing Ordinary level examinations. In 1974 her house tutor said "Without any fuss whatsoever she tackles immediate problems and makes it a pleasure to teach her". By the summer of 1976, a teenage Karyn starts to notice the world "Karyn must not allow herself to be distracted by other members of the class". In 1977, Karyn was preparing for 'O' levels in Geography, Biology, French, German, Commerce, History and English Language & Literature. Karyn was proud of her education at Fairfield and often reminded me that the actor Cary Grant (then known as Archie Leach) went to Fairfield 5 decades earlier. I later found out that he was expelled at age 14 for sneaking into the girls' toilets!! The old Fairfieldians Society recently produced a documentary on the school history which I bought for Karyn and she was surprised to see a picture of herself featured in a group photo of her class.
