Karyn attended Henleaze Infants and Junior School. On her school report for Class 9 in September 1971 (age 8) for English - Oral Communication "Inclined to be reluctant to join in class discussions. Chatters to friends with great confidence". For General Interest Subjects - "Obviously enjoys finding out information from books. Produces accurate work and colourful illustrations". For Creative Work - "Has a gift for drawing accurately and for producing neat, colourful work". The following year in English "Karyn is lively and vivacious while still preserving appropriate dignity and calm in the classroom!" And in 1973 - "Karyn has a happy disposition and sense of humour. She is most reliable and cooperative and always sets herself a high standard".
